New Dad and Sudden Birth

 The most common question that I heard prior to having my new baby girl was; “are you ready?”  What a question!  Crystal and I prepared and prepared for the baby to arrive.  We painted the baby’s room, put in furniture, decorated, cleaned the house from top to bottom, sorted, moved closet items, collected baby toys and clothing, sorted all the wonderful gifts from the FIVE baby showers, and read several books. 

 So now that the baby is here I can answer the question with a great big yes!  Everything has gone smoothly because we put in plenty of preparation. 

An interesting thought popped into my head as we talked about all the preparation we did but were still surprised by the early arrival of our daughter.  It comes from Matthew 24:42 and says, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” 

 Crystal and I knew that Naomi was coming but we were surprised by the day she arrived and had last minute details that were left undone.  As I think about the Lord’s second coming I am gently reminded to be about my Father’s business.  When Jesus does return I would like to be able to say that I have done everything in my power to be a faithful testimony of the good news.  

 I imagine that when Jesus does return I will still be surprised but I would like to have done my best to be ready!
